Here are some thoughts in regards to toys and the activity of "playing".
A subject we looked at at the last baby group.
while we are observing the development of our child, we notice that the very first "toys" a baby discovers are her hands, next will be her feet. Next she will develop
curiosity in regards to texture and she will practice reaching for and holding on to a toy that she will explore with all of her senses. Seeing, feeling, tasting, smelling and hearing. We can observe the child getting deeply focused on these activities.
It resembles the focus of a grown person at "work". this small baby is seeking information through all of her senses while she is learning and practicing body functions and the ability to focus.
As parents we go through great trouble to provide nutritionally balanced and organic foods. The same awareness is needed when we nourish and protect our young children s
senses from environmental toxins and over stimulation.
It is good to consider leaving space for the child's budding senses to develop.
A parents finger for instance could be a perfect toy for a 5 to 6 months old baby.
Watching it move and find out about all the things it can do. It is mostly about
creating the possibility for the small child to engage physically and be with their
naturally existing creative imagination, which later, as they are older, grows into
creative problem solving skills. For that reason it is better to keep toys rather
simple, avoiding mechanical toys. The young childs physical Organs are formed
through a healthy physical environment such as being exposed to natural space, color,
sound, taste and feeling. Children learn not by verbal information, as we all know,
they copy us and their environment. Their emotional response informs the fine
structuring of their brain, which is still relatively unripe at birth most deep
structuring has taken place by the age of seven.
